Unexpected Downtime: 9/2-11 21:47 - 21:57

We just had some downtime for our MySQL daemon, which caused the forums and the wiki to be unavailable.
I am mostly to blame for the downtime.

I updated the software on the server the forums reside on, you know, the usual business.
Then I notice that a "major update" for MySQL had been installed, and it urged me to restart the MySQL daemon. Okay.
:: Starting MySQL Server [BUSY]
After around 20 seconds of waiting, I realized something wasn't right. From there, I started hunting after the MySQL logs (they turned out to be in /var/lib/mysql) and then I had to pinpoint the issue.

It told me to remove the "ibdata1" file. So I did. Tried starting the daemon again to see if it worked. It did.
So yeah, awfully sorry about that. I personally see any downtime as a really big deal, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

In happier news, we actually had a straight 100% uptime in January! Yay!

The forums being down for a bit isn't a huge problem, but not being able to access the docs is. Maybe someone should build an elaborate contraption that mirrors the docs onto another server (and keeps them up to date).

Yeah, I wonder why nobody has thought of that before...
