I am mostly to blame for the downtime.
I updated the software on the server the forums reside on, you know, the usual business.
Then I notice that a "major update" for MySQL had been installed, and it urged me to restart the MySQL daemon. Okay.
After around 20 seconds of waiting, I realized something wasn't right. From there, I started hunting after the MySQL logs (they turned out to be in /var/lib/mysql) and then I had to pinpoint the issue.:: Starting MySQL Server [BUSY]
It told me to remove the "ibdata1" file. So I did. Tried starting the daemon again to see if it worked. It did.
So yeah, awfully sorry about that. I personally see any downtime as a really big deal, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
In happier news, we actually had a straight 100% uptime in January! Yay!
