I think I should clarify what I meant by "side scroller support". I meant a lot of tools that make it easier e.g. built in easy camera, something like ATL built in, etc. Like a lot of helper code(In Java you'd called them "helper classes", I don't know about Lua) to make it easier. Maybe it's just because I can't understand how to do it, but it's pretty tough to make a side-scroller IMO!

That's all available already (gamera / hump.camera, ATL, etc). It likely won't ever be built in. LÖVE somewhat follows Lua's design philosophies, which are significantly different from Java's.
