Hello I started learning love recently and I am having a lot of fun doing that, and because I am doing everything on my phone because I am a mad man and poor... I am a poor mad man, I needed a way to easily give input to the program with just a touch screen for the beginning I used a library called paddy but sonce I moved on and made my own dpad, after that I started making a turn based rpg but to do that I needed a ui library but the problem is that while learning how to use it I got distracted and started making my own ui library that was fully made for mobile touch control at the moment I just got a function to creat new custom buttons but it's a start, I would say that this is an endgame goal that would probably take a couple of years to finish but I'm having fun and that's what matters.
So if you want to tell me something that I need to know for making a ui library or have a similar story or anything let me know

I would recommend studying how existing libraries handle stuff, some are simple, some allow for complex objects. Almost nobody uses grid as we know it from web design and layout.

As someone who made (and still uses) a ui library for their turn-based RPG project...if your goal is to ship and you don't have very specific needs that would require doing so, I don't recommend writing your own. Especially if you're new. With that said, if you're just messing around and want to learn? Go for it.
It's a matter of priorities, put the part of the project that matters most to you first lest you lose your grasp on it.

Then go for it, abstract enough, so you can release it later as another UI library. As we don't have enough of them :-) (we don't!)
