Boxclip (platformer / map editor)

Post by unixfreak »

An unfinished platformer project/engine i've been working on and off for a while (about 2 years i think...). It's probably the first love2d program i started that has continually evolved as i learn new things. The code is probably horrendous in some places, but if anyone wants to check it out, here's the github link: https://github.com/jigoku/boxclip

Basically, it's aimed at being a mix of super mario / sonic the hedgehog in terms of gameplay. It has it's own built in map editor allowing you to create levels inside the actual program. You can literally drag and drop platforms, place entities, save the map, and then play through it all within the love2d file.

The repository of my fork can be found here: https://codeberg.org/glitchapp/boxclip-mobile

A short video to see some of the new stuff I added in action: https://video.gamerstavern.online/w/fbA ... YtU7anD7Vo

I'm not attaching the game because it has become big and there are constant updates so you better download it from my repository.

Feel free to leave feedback, I would love to know what you think about it.

I like how it sounds, I also had in mind giving each characters unique abilities or some items that enable them and levels that requires those abilities to be completed.

Feel free to contribute and write your ideas and wishes to issues on the repository, maybe someone implement them. Feel free to fork the project and implement it yourself and send them to me if you want too. There is also a loomio forum for the project, feel free to join it and share your contributions and ideas there: https://groups.f-hub.org/boxclip/

In the last update I also added new physics: the camera rotation affects gravity, if you turn the camera the character slides and fall to where the camera is rotating, I have plans to add this mechanic to bonus stages.

I've recently updated the wiki with some interesting information for developers and players, feel free to check it: https://codeberg.org/glitchapp/boxclip-mobile/wiki/home

The level editor is again functional and now it features hundreds of new assets including:

new platforms, props, pickups and enemies
If also features all the new entities added to the engine such as:
portals to bonus stages, cloth entities, bridges, doors, loops, new pickups and switches. (beware that some are still experimental and may crash, feel free to test them and report any bug to the codeberg repository)

Feel also free to send me your creations with it, the best ones may be added to the game.
