Simpleinertia

Post by bgordebak »

I've made this simple prototype in 2015, and put it in these forums with my old account (Since I removed my old e-mail account and I forgot my password, I can't access my old account: purplehuman)

In 2015, Tesselode made some suggestions for better gameplay, but I didn't feel like working on the game anymore, because I didn't know if it's possible to make it into a full game. I still don't know.

In the game some force is trying to pull you out of the blue square and you are trying to oppose it. Every five seconds force changes direction and every second force strengthens a bit, so game speed increases. You try to stay inside the blue square as long as possible.

The game is also on itch.io, and it's Unijam entry. I might've misunderstood the theme though. I hope it doesn't cause the game poor ratings.

Update: Some improvements by 4aiman. Thanks, man!

Update: A little bugfix.

Update: v0.3. Added music.

Update: I withdrew the game from the Unijam, because apparently I misunderstood the theme. It should've been "retro" and "about hacking" I think. This might've caused poor ratings for the game.

Controls:

Space: Start/restart game
Arrow keys: Move
M: Music on/off

Hey dude!

I just tried your game out and I (with some friends) like it. It's simple yet challenging. Might easily damage laptop keyboards thanks to the velocity of the square :P

Tried just once, got 106 seconds.
Just when I was ready to yawn the FORCE got me :)

What I'm trying to say is "1.5 minutes is a bit too much to begin feel the challenge".
Maybe a couple of smaller squares can be added?
If a player manages to stay inside a smaller square, add some bonus points (say, x2 and x3) and empower the FORCE a bit more (same x2 and x3) than usual. Once a player fails to stay inside a smaller square drop the bonus multiplier, but keep the FORCE power.

That way both new and pro players will be able to feel the challenge :nyu:

Sorry, bgordebak, I just couldn't wait :awesome:

Features:
  • 2 zones
  • stay the whole "round" in the smaller zone and get a time multiplier
  • go out of the smaller zone and lose your multiplier
  • the longer you stay inside the smaller zone the higher your multiplier is
  • nice wind effect done with just one particle system to distract you
  • "dancing" arrows to distract you
  • "tilting" timer when bonus is applied
  • the FORCE power increases every round
  • your movement speed increases every round
And a bonus:
  • The source code is now a huge mess!

P.S. The included particle sprite is so simple that it would be stupid to demand anything. All my changes are WTFPL/PD as well as the image I've added.

Haha! Nice!

Thanks a lot! You're awesome!

I need to turn the bonuses and passed time into some kind of score system, but that's easy.

EDIT: Oh, I see, you change the timer when bonus is applied. That's nice!

EDIT: I know you said it's WTFPL, but I'll attribute you in the jam. Do you have an itch.io account?

Thanks. I couldn't find a way to attribute you in the jam entry. But I added a copyright notice in main.lua and dropped a note on the game's page. And I changed "Solo" to "Team" as developer.

Wow! Suddenly I'm in a Unijam :)
Thanks :)

Nice ^_^
As I can see, there's plenty of time left.
How would you like me to think of some more improvements?

Hmmm...
I think there's plenty of time for my own entry to be made as well :nyu:

If you'd like, you can improve it further, but it's not necessary. I already appreciate what you did.

EDIT: I usually lose my bonuses pretty quickly. :D
