[Early alpha] Divefrog, the game where you're a frog and you

Post by garcia1000 »

Hello!
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/218 ... eFrog.love

Divefrog is a game where you're a frog and you kick other frogs. It runs on 0.10.0

This is a fully playable game with three selectable characters at the moment.

Major features yet to be implemented:
- Netplay
- AI

Please give any comments and criticism here. I was looking at some of the other games posted here and they are way more, how you say, "polished". What's an efficient way to add polish to my game?

Hey, it seems you forgot to attach your game (or link to the project page) :D

Interesting game. I'm not sure how good the instant kill mechanic is. I didn't get a very good feel for the game as it was just me, pressing the four buttons (forever alone :( ) One problem is that it crashes after the ninth (final) round for me with this error:

Code: Select all

main.lua:385: attempt to call field 'setF' (a nil value

Traceback

main.lua:385: in function 'draw'
[C]: in function 'xpcall'
[EDIT]

Looking at that line in the source it seems you meant to put 'love.graphics.setColor(31, 39, 84)'

Thanks, that must have gotten deleted somehow. Fixed locally.

Divefrog was inspired by Divekick, a game where humans kick people and each hit is instant kill

I suppose you could "polish" the game if you want to make it into something commercially viable, but I think the crudity, like the badly drawn sprites (no offense, man :P ) and the silly character names, gives the game a comical, whimsical feel that I find hilarious. Fans of Tim and Eric should know what I mean ;) Can't tell if the gameplay is good, need to try and play this with a friend later on.

Nice, I added a lot of "juice" to the game in the form of explosion particles everywhere, huge fire bars for the super meter, and so on :awesome:

I didn't intend for the sprites to be so badly drawn  it's just that my drawing skills lag behind my programming/music skills a bit :ultrahappy:

That "juice" talk was really useful! I added some of the things like screen shakes, and more particles, and I think it looks better now. I hope it retains the "indie" feel as well
