[LD29] The Last Beacon (with post-compo!)

You are a robot, woken up somewhere underground. You're completely lost: deeply inside the ground, there's no chance to escape. These caves are not visited for decades, so you're on your own. The only way to ask for help if you shoot your laser beam out of this pit - but it's not always that easy sometimes!

"The Last Beacon" 2D platformer game with logic elements, a little bit of arcade feeling, pixelart graphics, 14 levels and a strange story which is not explained properly.

I'm pretty proud of how it ended, though some aspects of the game are lame.

Everything's explained ingame, but don't expect overexplaning. Try exploring some thing on your own.

NOTE: if laser doesn't burst through breakable tiles, turn laser off and on again; couldn't fix this bug.

I have no idea of what to do after touching the ground in level 2. I can "fall" to the lower level, but then what? The hook moves me up and down only, and the laser doesn't seem to do anything.

Press SPACE, then left or right IMMEDIATELY - needs some skills but works.

I am on level 9 and have found this quite fun and well made at first it was quite easy (I solved the first five without even knowing how :P) but at level 6 it starts getting harder. There is just one thing that annoys me the laser sound specially when left on for long but that's just me.

Anyone else? I mean, I'd be happy if someone would write something - as I read the comments on ludumdare.com, it can't be as bad as it should be forgotten here or something.

2014/05/12 Post-compo version uploaded! Still WIP because I want to extend the game itself, but it has some major update
- fixed bug that didn't update laser beam when it destroyed a block
- fixed bug that allowed player shooting a buggy laser beam while falling
- reduced breakable block durability
- grappling hook now doesn't work on lvl1
- improved (but still WIP) main menu

Gonna happen in a future update. Originally, the grappling hook was (with some other functions) a way for me to avoid silly implemented jumping.

My feedback; good concept, annoying sound for laser (eeeek), and needs more difficulty, but otherwise it's fine.
