Survival Game Thing

I've had an account on here for a while now and I thought I might as well make my presence known with a game.
The name of the game is "Attack Of The Green Pillars." You take on the role of a lone white pillar in an abstract world defending yourself from endless hordes of Green Pillars, if the name didn't help you figure that out already.
You control it via WA and D keys to move and Mouse1 to shoot the approaching green pillars.
That's about all you need to know to survive the onslaught of Green Pillars.
Also this was made in 0.8.0 but It should be compatible with 0.9.0
Enjoy!
also I made this thing in 2hrs

Jimanzium, I hadn't even heard of your game before I clicked that link in your reply. Besides, ours are barely similar.
Other than that I'm not new to game development, only the forum, so there was no reason for literally everything after the first sentence. (Besides most of it was your own opinion)
So yes, that was pretty mean.

I think you are of for a good start.
Here are some design suggestions on how to make the game more fun:
- Jumping currently does not do anything, because you cannot jump over the enemies. I suggest you either remove jumping or you make it so high that you can jump over enemies
- Enemies should start coming in a lower frequency in the beginning and the then the amount of enemies should increase continuously. Or maybe do it in waves, with increasing numbers of enemies
- How about you add randomly appearing power-ups. For example the bomb could kill all enemies on screen or an ice cube that freezes all enemies
- Also together with power-ups how about you implement different weapons showing up randomly. They should have restricted ammo so from time to time the player will fall back to the default weapon.
Besides that I like, that the screen gets really crowded after some time, so that could be like a zombie shooter.

Jimanzium wrote:Seems suspiciously a lot like a game I posted the other day (
http://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77549) except worse. The difficulty is entirely based on how fast you can mash your mouse button and the movement is really rather pointless. White isn't a funky colour and doesn't go with the rest of the game. Also there is no score counter and the 'enemies' just pile up. I guess I'm in a bad mood today.
I think you need to play your own games a bit more and decide whether it is actually fun or 'do I just like this because I did it'. Games can be challenging but it has to be fair challenging, if I played this over and over I'd probably do a bit better each time but I'm not actually gettin bertter at the game, I'm getting better and button mashing. Anyway, this could have just been practice or whatever so congrats you did a thing, use this to get better at making things until you make a thing so good it blows minds.
I feel mean.
Yes, there are some similarities. But the differences outrank the similarities. Yes both games involve a block fighting another block but Church's game featured movement while yours stood in place. I tried both games but I preferred Church's because he forced you to balance your clicking and movement. I'm not making much sense but let see if I can explain it. You have to decide when to move away from enemies because as you move further away you get closer and must decide which side to focus on. Its not just button mashing. It takes skill. Not like yours is anything other than timed button mashing either. Yours relies solely on how quick you can spot a block and how fast you can press a key. I am in no way saying the Church's game is flawless or that your game is bad. They are both unique. It just depends on what you prefer. This however does not give you the ability to rudely attack someone else's game just because it is somewhat similar. You don't see Call of Duty yelling at Battlefield in forums just because they both feature many of the same features and gameplay. I also liked Church's description better, "You take on the role of a lone white pillar in an abstract world defending yourself from endless hordes of Green Pillars". It's better than "You have to 'shoot' the red boxes before they reach you."
Now for some comments I want to make to Church on his game:
I like the sounds but they get a little annoying when you die. (So much same sound spam)
I have to agree that jumping should be higher.
I noticed the first time I played there were hardly any green pillars and the second time I was overwhelmed in the first few seconds.
Well good luck with the continued development of it.

I was thinking of something like that, listen to micha he/she (don't know who is) know what's talking about

I guess I can't just keep denying input so, although a far cry from the original, here is a better version.
I didn't want to update this at all though, so don't expect any more.

The enemies should get stronger with each coming wave. Right now once you level up damage your invincible. Also it started on wave 2. Still the jump to fix too.
