Game Saves

I need some way to save the values of a few variables when the game is terminated. You know what I'm sayin? I don't really know the concept of game saves to begin with, so I'm kind of lost about how to implement it. Feel like I'm not making any sense. Do you guys understand what I'm trying to say?
