If you feel adventurous you could learn vim. If not, Sublime text is a very popular option among developers here.

I just use gedit. It comes with any gnome-based distro (including Mint, which is what I use too), using gnome resources you're already using anyway. It has code highlighting for Lua, color schemes (I like the dark ones) and you can Tab or Shift+Tab pieces of your code (sorry, that's the most advanced feature I know).

I use Zerobrane Studio. This is not editor but complete Lua IDE with fully love2d support. And it's really lighweight, comparing to Eclipse with Lua Development Tools or even to Sublime Text.

Sublime text gets my vote. Never looked back after I started using it.

gedit is really a good option, is really simple and have all the basic thing you will need, also you can configure it for executing you code with a key combination.

I use geany. Feels a bit like notepad++ which is what i was used to before i switched to linux.

Whaaaa? I heard about some plugins that execute Python, but not Lua/LÖVE...
