It's a requirement of the .app Mac building process.
Edit: Saying that, I'll have the page updated to be a bit more descriptive!

Okay, we now support both from url and from file as an upload mechanism. This means you're now able to upload your .love file directly to the site instead of passing a URL for us to retrieve. The build page has also been updated with a description of the relevant fields.

I get corrupted 0-byte zip files. Am I doing something wrong?

Can you attach (or link to) the love file you're attempting to build so I can take a look at this for you?

I have the same problem... Mac and Win zips are 0byte zip files, and if I try to download the .love I get this:
