Is love hardware or software rendered?

LÖVE does not have a renderer itself, it uses OpenGL for the drawing. With OpenGL, it's the operating system's job to provide a way for the graphics card vendors to create a driver for their hardware. If the graphics driver is then properly installed it will be hardware accelerated, but if that's not the case, the OS might fall back to a software renderer.
