First I learned the basics of Lua, I started with Löve as I figured out that I can start the Löve-Bin from within my IDE with one keystroke :) Before I saved, zipped, renamed to .love and dragged to love.exe each time I wanted to make a testrun, what was too tedious for my limited amount of patience.
And as my fore-poster already mentioned, the wiki is a good place to lookup details of löve-commands.

It's a secret, don't tell anybody, but I managed to hack into the Pentagon...

THE PENTAGON?!

Anyways, I learned by making a ton of small games that had mechanics that I had no Idea how to program.

For example, when I was first starting, I didn't know how to make an image move, so I challenged myself to make a game where you are a red box that moves around! And whenever I ran into something that I didn't know how to do, I googled it, and if I couldn't find it there I asked about it on the forums. (but I'd pretty much just ask on the forums most of the time anyways)

I used ComputerCraft, learned little Lua there. I watched a tutorial from DevHQ, went here, watched SockMunkee Dev tutorials, watched Goature's tutorials, watched Josefnpat's tutorial, watched NeoSilkyFTW's tutorials, read through the wiki and the LÖVE forums.
