Steam?

Post by Bambo »

do you think that epic games made with LOVE would be allowed to upload their games to steam?

I'm just curious.

Possibly, Steamworks does support XNA, Flash and Adobe Air games, so I don't see any problem with a game built using Love. Isn't In The Dark planned for Steam release?

I'm not sure but if they can enter, why can't LOVE?

Who says LÖVE games can't use Steamworks? The Steamworks API is written in C++, so is LÖVE. I know very little about these things, but I don't see why you couldn't use it.

Someone just needs to make a cool game and apply for access to the Steamworks SDK.

I... said it could. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what I said, though I did sort of use double negatives (not, problem).

tl;dr Yes.

If you can make your love game into an executable then I'd think you could submit it to Steam or whatever, not that I know anything about Steam at all

I know of at least one Game Maker game and a couple of Adventure Game Studio games on Steam. I would be extremely surprised if a game couldn't be released on Steam because it was made with LÖVE.

You need you apply to steam by submitting a demo or game for review. If they approve then you can negotiate puce of sale and their cut , you will also get access to steam works ( saving to cloud , achievements , etc.)

Their api is written in C so it's a matter of importing that into love

I'm fairly sure that Steamworks is an essential part of the Steam installer. It may be possible to get away without using it, but it would make your game singularly difficult to download on the Steam platform, which would be quite a black mark against you.
