Multiplayer loving event

Post by bartbes »

I want to organize a nice multiplayer gaming event for us sometime soon (currently thinking of the week of the 28th).

This has been done:
  • Find potential hosts
This has yet to be done:
  • Choose a game
  • Set a date and time
  • Get players
  • Find more/backup hosts
So.. who can help me move things from list 2 to list 1?

Are there any conditions on the games to be chosen?

Most my multiplayer life has happened on 1 vs 1 games lately - Street Fighter IV (PC, on steam) + Starcraft II.

The last "really multiplayer" game I played is Team Fortress.

All those games "come" with a server - steam or battlenet.

I can also play a decent Dwarf Fortress, provided that I don't have to mess with the new military "interface" (that word doesn't describe the experience, but it'll have to do). So I can do at least the initial part of a dwarf fortress cooperative history. I say this because this game is free, it doesn't require any central servers or coordinating multiple people.
When I write def I mean function.

We could do some competition, of course, but the best would probably be a mmo, or at least something with decently-sized teams. Of course nobody said we're restricted to one game and/or one timeslot.

Should probably choose something that's small and easy to get, preferably with wide appeal. Things that come to my mind:

- Minecraft (wildly popular, cheap (or free, assuming you just want to play Creative mode), tiny download)
- Soldat (free, small download, multiplayer-based, easy to get into)
- Freespace 2 (abandonware, amazingly good, has full coop support)
- Sven Coop mod for Half-Life 1 (awesome coop, great fun, HL1 is very cheap)
- TrackMania Nations Forever (free, competitive multiplayer, surprisingly fun)
Earliest Love2D supporter who can't Love anymore. Let me disable pixel shaders if I don't use them, dammit!
Lenovo Thinkpad X60 Tablet, built like a tank. But not fancy enough for Love2D 0.10.0+.

I own a 24/7 vanilla minecraft server. IP: 69.160.241.229 you guys could organize something, there are 20 slots so there should be enough room for some LOVErs.

This seems like a good choice, seeing as how it's also available for all three major platforms.

Speaking as a Mac user, Savage 1 and 2 are both awesome. S2Mercenary would approve. :p
