Avatars disabled

According to my user control panel:
The avatar functionality is currently disabled.
Can we get them back someday? I do see some people have their avatars, but mine's apparently missing and the downtime probably resulted in some setting being toggled somewhere, meaning I can't put one back there.

We will get them back someday, but there is only 1 active admin, and he's on holiday...

I thought this was fixed.. why are the avatars broken again?
