Towlr: Bury My Heart at Towlr Mountain

Post by willurd »

Hey all! I made my first game in LOVE over the weekend. It's a Towlr. Essentially, that means the game "will not give the player any indication of what goals the player is trying to achieve", "will only output sounds that are grating and awful, and computerized", "will display clearly and offensively when the player has failed, resetting to a default state" and "shall award cake to the player upon victory". Read the Towlr manifesto for all the details.

WIN! I got cake in 10 tries! This is an awesome little game! It would be awesome to make a whole bunch of these towlr games, and put them together. When you finish one, you move onto the next, and so on, like levels.

Haha, wow. I didn't even realize how to play until I made it halfway through the puzzle by memorizing my sequence of keys. Wow. 52 errors...

Feel free to censor my posts, btw XD. I don't login enough to do it myself :death:

Sounds like a fun and frustrating game to me :)

I strongly encourage everyone to take a stab at making their own Towlr. It was a fun little project that only took about a day for someone new to Lua and LOVE. It was a great learning exercise and a blast to make because it was a different kind of game than what I'm used to, and because it was such a short project :). If anyone does make one and wants to do what Fourex is saying above about combining them into one big dangerous game of frustration, I'm down with doing the combining and setting up a thread for that project.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I made the sounds with cfxr.

Yea, the point of the game is to figure out what the point of the game is without hints of any kind.

Edit: Reversed my stupidity.
