Re: Gender survey thingy
So far 56 people have responded, and it seems that's all the response we're gonna get. I guess that means that our forums have 56 currently active members. Our community is going to be slightly larger, because there are a few peeps that only hang on IRC.
Still, our ratio is better than I expected (which in itself is pretty depressing). For an open-source community this is either average, or half the average, depending on which large-scale surveys have the best results.

There's also people who didn't vote at all, like myself. Then there's people taking the piss and voting whatever.Robin wrote:Our community is going to be slightly larger, because there are a few peeps that only hang on IRC.

Re: Gender survey thingy
I don't think the number of people who voted on a poll for a topic asking for personal information (not to mention causing some arguments in the community) is a direct representation of the number of active people in the community.
The number of people who joined the forums in the past 2 weeks is about the same as the number of people who have voted here.

Re: Gender survey thingy
Looking at the number of people who participate in any thread, that number much lower than the number of people who have recently joined, and most of them are around longer, so it seems reasonable to assume that most people who join the forums never become active members.
Also, it might be personal information, but it's anonymous and a single multiple choice question. You don't reveal much information that way. And time isn't an issue either, because it takes less than a second to take the survey.
