Amazing! Two more entries, and it's still the first week!

I've added links to Vrld's and BlackBulletIV's projects to the entries page.

All three explosions look convincing and differentiated so far - Taehl's one is more "realistic", Vrld's "smokeish" (like an explosion of spores) and BlackBulletIV's is sort of "techno", with those psychedelic circles.

I haven't had the opportunity to check out the source code of anyone so far, but I'm really happy with the looks of what we are getting.

I'd agree with you style definitions of the explosions.

Yeah, I'm quite amazed what you can do with 4 (or even 2) KB when you're pushed to do so. The 4 KB rule really initiates creativity and ingenuity.

By the way, did you get a chance to play with time control I threw in?

Yeah, it took me a little to find the controls - you should have included an explanation on your post. I added that explanation ("use up/down keys to change time scale") on the list. And yeah, it was awesome what you were able to accomplish in so little space!

I'm glad you liked the challenge. The idea wasn't mine at all, there have been competitions like this for a long time. I wanted to make an explosions competition since I learned that LÖVE 0.7 was getting framebuffers, but the 4KB rule was inspired by this.

You must have been reading my post too quick. Anyway, thanks.

You mean... that was done in 4KB?!?!? :ultrashocked:

Yup. Graphics, light and music. Here it is (It's 29k because they bundled several versions, for different screen resolutions).

If you like that, you should check out kkrieger, at http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger. It's not as mind-bogglingly small (weighing in at 96 kb), but it's a fully functional first person shooter with a boatload of high-tech features.

Wow. Thanks, haven't played it yet, as it's for Windows; I'll need to boot up my virtual machine. Lol, on the smallest one if they had 2 bytes more they would've went over; that's close.

............ That's some amazing byte crushing wizardry! :ultrashocked:

Hee hee, I've been in love with the demoscene since Farbrausch's 'Poem to a Horse'. I like Haujobb and ASD, too.

Anyway, a bit more on-topic: I know you can essentially write your own ImageData with mapPixel. Is there any way to do the same for sound?

setSample, I guess.

Yes, SoundData:setSample. See also this thread and (more ad hoc) in this project

Edit: Damnit, Robin! Y u so fast?
