I beat it fairly handily. You just have to remember to press DOWN a lot to stop movement.
There really shouldn't be so much initial movement when you press a key. It should "ramp up" to full speed over a second.

Yay for you!

That would make sense. Although I think it would make the sudden, quick movements generally required in platfomers a sluggish hell.

You would just need to tweak the ramp-up period. It's approximately 1 second in Super Mario games, so that's what I used for reference.

A new version has arrived.
The following improvements have been made:
- Movement speed ramps up, instead of starting at full speed. (Thanks, Evil Telephone!)
- Changed star images: alive looks like and dead like now.
- Improved working of menu.
- Added support for loading user levels (although it must be called "user.level", but I'm planning on changing that).
- Finished first level. (Well, kinda...)

Looking good. The game's improved a lot since the first version. The addition of acceleration makes it much more fun to play, although someone's advice about using down a lot definitely helped make the last bit easy. Great game!

New version!
I really should keep a changelog. Anyway, here are some of the improvements:
- Now displays a list of levels, instead of always loading "user.level".
- New funky feature: when you kill a bad guy, all your stars switch places (play "user.level" to see it well)
- Introducing a powerup (which still does nothing, but that changes as soon as I figure out what it should do. Any suggestions?)
- I've begun working on some new levels.
- And some other small changes I forgot.
EDIT: The game might claim that it's version 7. Do
not believe it! IT IS A
LIE! This is not version 7, it is version 6.
