That's somewhat what I said. You also need to be coding whenever you get the chance, and you can also tweak code in other people's projects for learning purposes. As long as you're not trying to redistribute modified games as your own, I don't think anyone would really mind.

I'm hesitant to post this (I don't want to get burned by the flames! T__T) but I started a tutorial on how to make tile-based games in LÖVE. I never got to finish it, but it should help you with the basics - it explains things like what a loop is, etc. In case it is useful to you, it can be found here:

I'm afraid only the first lessons are finished, though. Writing tutorials is very hard!

I've also created another thing. This one doesn't deal with LÖVE at all, only Lua. You will have to download and install the Lua executable to do it (instructions on the link below). It's a set of exercises that you must "complete". By completing them, you learn the language.

I'm not sure of how difficult it would be for someone learning to program to follow it. Please try using it and let me know how it goes.
