It was fairly buggy, but even without the bugs it wouldn't be very fun/fair. I talked a tiny bit about some of the issues with networked snake games in this facepunch post:

Looks like when you hit those tiles, your snayke turns counter-clockwise. So I guess you need to approach from one tile off to the edge so it turns you into it instead of away?

Yeah, they forcibly turn your snake in the indicated direction if it approaches from the block that the line starts on.
