Using slope to determine angles/modifiers between two points?

Thank you for the further explanation, Ivan (and for the image, Skeletonxf). This is all math I haven't thought about since high-school -- to think, I never expected to have to use it for more than a test. I'm definitely glad to be re-learning all of this, however.
