I haven't had any problem with Wine and LÖVE, even Mari0 with shaders on runs pretty well.

...wha? Why would anyone do this?master both wrote:One can also point out the the .exe's can be opened with Wine, which a lot of linux users have.
Nobody who releases a game should recommend this. It's just silly.

It's just an option. If a game made me install a new software to play it or use one that I got already installed, obviously I would use the one I got already. This is the case were you don't want to release a linux version of your game, of course.Ensayia wrote:...wha? Why would anyone do this?

Re: An ongoing problem for löve distribution.
It's really easy to release a linux verison of löve games, just providing the .love file will work for most linux users out there. I'm not sure what to do with those who don't manage to do 'sudo apt-get install love' (or eqivalent) and 'love game.love', just double-clicking on game.love like in windows or OSX would be nice to have but seems more complicated.
Anyway, recommending wine is a bad idea. Löve games work natively on Linux without a problem, wine is intended for programs that do not work natively.
Think of it this way: Going to a ice cream stand, drawing a gun and asking for ice may get you the ice cream, but it's still not a good idea.

For SLG, I plan on making a deb (and an aur I think, maaaybe a rpm) but for everyone else; I am thinking of providing a warning via zenity like this:

0.9.1 (and 0.9.2 when it comes out) are backwards-compatible with games written for 0.9.0 though, so that specific warning is wrong!josefnpat wrote:For SLG, I plan on making a deb (and an aur I think, maaaybe a rpm) but for everyone else; I am thinking of providing a warning via zenity like this:
