and people generally find better support for the tools on the official hosted forums for them.

I agree with you completely and I love these forums. Some people enjoy having everything centralized in one place (such as reddit), so that's what the subreddit is for. Also because reddit discussions follow a different path than forum discussions do (Reddit uses threaded comments)

Because BaconGameJam is Reddit's game dev jam. The competition is meant to promote r/love2d. Pretty much all love users already know about these forums.
