I figured out I was supposed to do so (sitting between the two blue magnets) by the 3rd try, witch felt fair, and pretty natural.

For the elevator versus canon subject, I think that's a matter of context more than speed. Maybe the fact that I was supposed to land somewhere particular. I'm not sure.

In fact, now I remember. I was trying to land on the red circle on the top of the cannon. I saw the other platform with the "goal" spot only the second time I played it.

I have a LOT of problems just "walking" around and jumping. I seemed to get stuck on the floor constantly, my walk speed was always random, and jumping only worked intermittently. Really need to fix that.

If you do want to have a multiple-key setup like Jasoco suggested, I'd humbly recommend TLbind, a library I built just for making things like that easy.
