I did a search and I couldn't find a similar thread, so I thought id start one. I am interested in knowing more about the people using the Love framework to make games. Where does the passion stem from, what the end goal is, anything else that's OK to share with a community (charity work, love for animals, whatever)
I can completely understand if people don't wish to contribute, but I am very curious to see if there are people similar to me in game development. This is an honest, friendly thread, but if the mods deem it inappropriate, then I also completely understand.
Ill kick it off.
I like to be called Pash, this is my nickname from school all the way to adult life, so it stuck. I work as a Senior Systems Engineer for a Japanese IT Managed Service Provider in the city of London, as my day job. Im a jack of all trades at work, windows, linux, networking, comms but I am very keen scripter over all other things, I hate doing stuff manually, which means if I can write WMI/COM scripts to make fancy spreadsheets for the boss once a month without having to lift a finger, ill do it.
My passion for games stemmed from when I was a kid. I have owned nearly every console ever made and since sold them, swapped them in and out on ebay over the years. I love PC gaming more than any other platform, met some real life friends through it, so it can't be a bad thing.
I have been scripting/programming on and off since college but never stuck with a language and framework to make games with, that is, until now (I been with Love for almost three months, which is my longest stay, and im not budging until I have some good projects behind me !!!). I am a part time game dev, my evenings and weekends are now spent with sublime text2 open and whatever music takes my fancy in the background. The goal would be at the moment, to have fun attempting to make games in Lua and Love. This is why I do it, no other reason
I love Sushi and asian cooking in general. I also love films and mma. Rugby is the best sport in the world.
Cheers,

Looks like it takes courage to reply to this thread.
Hi, my name is Inny and I'm a lövaholic. I originate from the Megazeux community (which means I'm probably 5-10 years older than everyone else here). When I first started out on the internet, my nickname was inmate2993. From the inside of the MZX community my most known game was Cans (I was so young when I made that), and from the outside my most known game is Forrester. I am a Software Engineer professionally, my girlfriend lives with me, and I spend way too much time playing Minecraft and participating on Reddit. For the last two years I've been doing everything on a Thinkpad, and am an avid Linux user. The last movie I went to see was The Hobbit, and I really enjoyed it. The last three things I've watched on Netflix are House Of Cards, Bob's Burgers, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
There, that wasn't so hard. Who's next?

Re: The Lovers Behind The Games
I've always liked to create stuff. It never necessarily had to be something particularly meaningful or worthwhile, but I was (and am) always making something. Maybe it was making something with Legos, maybe it was building a "robot" out of dryer vents and cardboard boxes, maybe it was building a wooden fort...always something.
My end goal: to make games I enjoy. Of course, like most "creators," I do want other people to play my games. And, of course, some recognition is always a good thing. But at the end of the day, I just want to enjoy making things.

Re: The Lovers Behind The Games
Okay here's mine.
I had a passion for online games since 2006 (remember, I'm 12 and born in 2001), so basically, every day after school, I come back home and search for games. My favorite seems to be Action & Adventure type games. I also looked into a game website called Miniclip and played games there too. While I was doing all of that, in about 2008-2009 I came across a Lego-like building-sharing game called ROBLOX in an advertisement (the one I saw was the one with the floating linked-car system thingy). Since I liked Legos, I decided to click the ad, and there's the ROBLOX home page (man back in the old days ). On my first account (PNX1), I played a derby type place on ROBLOX, but, since I'm new, I didn't know how to operate the motorcycle vechs (this was in the time where there were no "Vechicle Seats" that you can use the arrow keys to move; this was when you have to press "Y" to start and "X" to stop). After looking into more driving games, I finally saw some instructions on how to operated the old scripted seats. After some time in ROBLOX, I left it for a while and pursued a scripting language called ActionScript 3.0 (AS3) in 2010. It took me a long time to understand all of that, and still, before I played ROBLOX again, I didn't understand it. When I'm back in ROBLOX for a year or so (in an account called "pokemaster54", later "substitute541"), I decided to tackle AS3 again and, I now fully understand it. I made a couple of programs like simulating 3D (btw I used that knowledge to create the Love3D project), graphs and zooming (I used that to create minimaps), and others. While I'm in ROBLOX, I found a group there called "Love2D Fans" by a user called "crazyman32". Initially, I don't know what the heck that is, and also didn't even looked at it, but after some time, I looked into that, and also love2d.org . After a day (literally) understanding Lua, I used Love2D. And, here I am! In the love2D community!
Well that's all I guess.

It's really interesting and entertaining to read all your stories, but I'm not telling my story here. For a good reason my avatar is what it is: abstract; a symbol. As a man, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol, I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.
Trolls are a terror. Hearts of the night. I must disguise my terror. Trolls are a cowardly and superstitious lot. I must be a creature. I must be a creature of the night. I shall become me.
I'm Robin.

Actually, when I first saw your Avatar, I thought it was a saucepan with a pancake hanged on a wall. Took me like, half a month to figure out what your avatar really is.Robin wrote:It's really interesting and entertaining to read all your stories, but I'm not telling my story here. Re: The Lovers Behind The Games
This is a cool thread, interesting stories.
I'm a 22 year old dude living in Tennessee with my wonderful girlfriend. I go to the university here, studying electrical engineering. If I'm lucky, I'll graduate next May.
My ultimate goal is to build my house/studio on a plot of land north of Nashville, in the country. I have way too many interests to have much experience in any endeavor. But some of those things include; brewing (and drinking) beer, Tae-kwon-do club, rock climbing, weight-lifting, literature..
I've always loved video games. My first was NES mario that my big brother got me hooked on. I was 4 maybe? Haha. But I started programming in college for a class in C++. It made me look at things in a different way, and I thought one day I might even be able to make video games with C++! Well, I tried that several times and failed miserably. Lately though, I've been wanting to make video games very badly. So this winter break I tried Unity. Loved it, learned how to model in 3D, but ultimately, felt like I didn't have enough control--or rather--understanding of the machinery.
So here I am with Love2D, a much lower-level framework. I'm much happier. And hopefully I'll have something cool to show you guys soon. : )

Re: The Lovers Behind The Games
What the heck, I'll guess I'll do this.
Hi, I'm Qcode. I discovered Löve back in November 2011. I found it through stabyourself, where I was watching the in-development Mari0. I'm pretty young compared to most people here, I'm only 14. Due to this I never lived through the "Golden Age of Gaming" with low quality art and high quality gameplay that people regularly talk about. I still enjoy classic games though, my favorite being Contra. I've loved games all my life, I was first introduced to games by my older cousins, they let me play on their original playstation back when I was 2. I've moved twice in my life. I was born in England, then moved to Montana, USA when I was 7. Just recently I've been moved to PEI, Canada.
I spend a lot of time when I'm working with Löve modding Mari0. I make games when I'm not being lazy, and generally have fun doing it. I'd like to make games for a living, but I know competition is tough out in the real world. I would be worried about not making enough money to support myself, and no longer being able to afford basic things. As you can tell, I kind of imagine things to their worst conceivable outcome. But I don't have to worry about those sort of things for another few years now.
I'm not often recognized by people on the forum, probably because I have a low post count and have a reputation for being (kind of) stupid. I lurk a lot here, but I'm fine with that. I've been getting better at math, and I'm able to make my games better because of that now.
That's my incoherent rambling done for the day.
Ok, bye
