... so we - an army of six - participated in the Global Game Jam 2013 and made this game called
Grand Health Auto
As you might expect from the title, the game is largely inspired by the early GTA games (there are even different radio stations). LÖVE once again proved to be a very good choice for game jams: Despite the scope of the game, we got an initial prototype in just about 24 hours - Even though two of us never used LÖVE or even Lua before.
Anyway, here are some screenshots:
And here is a gameplay video:
I hope you have as much fun playing as we had making it!

Wait, there's multiple radio stations? How do I switch?

Nice job
Re: [GGj13] Grand Health Auto
That looks really slick and I'm sure it would get even better with more time to work on it.
I would like to see different missions or obstacles that stop you from accomplishing your goal.
Also, why does my ambulance drive slower than people are walking?! That really annoyed me and I'm not sure if it is something I'm doing wrong.... ;-)

This is pretty cool. Some tweaking and it could be much cooler. Is this the same game jam that spawned Heart Surgeon Simulator?
I'd work on the car and people AI, make them a bit smarter and follow paths so they're not all over the place. (Like that weird jumbled traffic jam) Put some skid marks on the ground when you turn too fast. Tweak the graphics a bit, make the people standing upright and maybe use a 16-bit style. (I know, I know.) Just don't make it look too much like Grand Theftendo--I mean Retro City Rampage.

Hmmm... that sounds strange. The ambulance can reach about 150 km/h. If you are pushing a person you are being slowed down. To avoid pushing persons you have to hit them at a higher speed and knock them out. However there is a bug as on some systems that you can't knock out people.kasmeltz wrote: Also, why does my ambulance drive slower than people are walking?! Yes, car and people AI could use some work but it does its job to make reaching the goals a bit harder.

That game is fun as hell.I love it.
Maybe just because I enjoyed every single GTA version I've played.
Anyway, good work, guys. Looking forward new updates : new cards, new missions types, etc
