Dear fellow library authors,
The current naming convention for new libraries is (or might be) self limiting.
I'm a single 28-year-old male, so I get a good chuckle out of the creativity used in naming new libraries. However, I can see how the library names might dissuade some people/organizations from using Love.
I'm not attempting to police the community. This is just a friendly request. Perhaps we can tone it down a bit?
I look forward to more discussion,
Nick
An open request to LÖVE library authors...

I am in fact in the process of writing a new library! It is used to easily transmit data over a network. I have named it:
Network Object, or Nob for short.

Do you recognise when the world won't stop for you? Or when the days don't care what you've got to do? When the weight's too tough to lift up, what do you? Don't let them choose for you, that's on you.

Animations and Löve (AnAL) comes to mind.
Re: An open request to LÖVE library authors...
Seeing as how Love is an open source project where a lot of good commercial alternatives already exist, and almost all of the content is community driven, the short answer is that I can't imagine any organization having been dissuaded from using Love solely on the names of its libraries.
A better question is how many women have been turned off to the Love community. I'm kind of working on the assumption that this community it 99% Male, with the remaining 1% avoiding identification, and rightfully so, we all knows what happens when the internet finds a girl in its midsts.
So, my only request is that we don't turn into the Ruby community. (further reading)

I reluctantly agree with ncarlson. Over the weekend, while working on my Global Game Jam entry, my partner was having trouble with animations and I suggested he look at some of the libraries we have. He was having trouble finding it, so he went into Google and searched "love anal"...
There's no way that people can really search for this stuff, apart from going to the wiki's library page. For those of us in the community, sure, we know where to look. But we aren't the only people using LÖVE.

This is really something we should think about as a community. With all the gayness inherent in LÖVE, we should be at the forefront of encouraging diversity in open source, not be (or pretend to be) a bunch of stereotypical heterosexual male cisgender frat boys. Really, the only diversity we now have is that of culture, nationality and race. We should do more. Let's begin with fixing the gender imbalance.Inny wrote:A better question is how many women have been turned off to the Love community. How do you suggest we do that, though? Surgery?Robin wrote:Let's begin with fixing the gender imbalance.
(The first question is serious.)
