Hi everyone! I am pleased to show you my first creation using LOVE (and Zoetrope) -- Kata vs. Kata!!!!1
It's...I don't know if it has a genre name. =P It's a fighting game where both players enter a string of moves and see how they turn out -- in effect, devising the most unbeatable of katas and seeing how ridiculously it works out when strictly followed in practice. =P Here is a video of me vs. my wife...
(how do I embed a thing heeeelp!)
If you have someone else sitting around the house that you can play with, and are so inclined, give it a whirl and let me know what you think. ^__^ Here's the links to the .exe and the .love file

I think that .zip will only work on Windows (I don't yet know how to make sure I've got a working version for Linux and Mac).

That's a very good basis, and somewhat fun.
And for a first project with Löve, you did a great job.
Let's hope you'll add some new features : real sprites would be a good starting point.

A way to go back to the menu would be nice.
Help us help you: attach a .love.

Haha, thanks all.
Maybe someday I will make the animations more than one frame for most poses though, yes. =P

I am conflicted! I will choose to believe the option that is more flattering.Roland_Yonaba wrote:real sprites would be a good starting point.

Haha um. Umm. >_> This will go at the top of the to-do list. =PRobin wrote:A way to go back to the menu would be nice.

Dull but sincere filler.

Excellent work, man. This game cracks me up. It's like watching two people with blindfolds try to duke it out.

Lua is not an acronym.

Awesome, very original idea
Or at least I haven't seen anything like it
The kata recording phase is a bit unchallenging, especially for the first player. If it was a single player game you could probably replay the bot sequence a couple of times and try to perfect your kata until you defeat it. The second player gets a little unfair advantage being able to see what the first player does (but has the challenge to counter that, which is the fun bit)
Also I feel like reducing the health a bit, those remarks aside it is quite fun and has a lot of potential.
The concept reminds me a bit of a board game called RoboRally where you have to pre-program the actions of a robot, and there are other robots (controlled by other players) that can push you and shoot at you, but besides them you also need to take into account the changing environment.
P.S. I don't want to sound negative, I enjoyed playing it with my brother
