Fall-Winter Demo

Fall-Winter Demo 2012
This is a small technical demo I put together showcasing some basic features you would find in a tile-based rpg/adventure game.

This demo showcases:
  • Basic movement and collision in a tile-based world
  • Transitioning between multiple maps
  • Basic camera movement
  • RPG-like textbox
The demo uses: If you have any questions or suggestions, just let me know. I didn't know what to name the demo so I just settled to use the season(s) and year I was planning to release it. Hope you find it useful.

This version will fix any line-flickering issues you may have. It is the same as the first version except everything is drawn using whole number coordinates only.

For LÖVE 0.8.0. Untested on lower versions. You may experience line-flickering, see the latest version above instead.

This is really nice!

I remember playing Child of Winter and liking the world system a lot!

There is one issue with the graphics on my machine, but otherwise it's very clean!

Very well done, it feels very polished for a demo.

My only very minor grip is that diagonal movement is way too fast, probably because you are simply adding vertical and horizontal movement. Other than that, it looks very nice.
When I write def I mean function.

I've got the same problem too, those fancy lines flicker and it's quite annoying, but I like everything else!

I have the line flickering problem. Other than that, like everyone else said, looks good!

That is absolutely gorgeous.
I haven't looked at the code yet, (and I will, soon) since i am wondering to see how you implemented some specific features.
Anyway, great work.
I also experienced the flickering issue with the graphics. But, besides that, everything went well.
Should we expect another demo fall-winter demo by 2013 ? :awesome:

Thank you for all your feedback. Here is a version with sprite batch enabled in ATL. Movement is not as smooth on my machine this way, but it may help with with all the line flickering.

Ah, that's what it is. I kept thinking it was just my imagination that I was moving faster diagonally. Thanks

Hopefully not a demo, but a full game by that time : )

Just tried that new package (with spritebatches turned on).
I still have the same issue with graphics (attachment).
But yes, the demo still looks awesome :awesome:

Looks pretty good!
I didn't have any problems with the first version. But with the spritebatches it's like a stopmotion movie o.o
Can't wait to play the full game.
