www.webscript.io - new website for making Lua server stuff

Post by kikito »

I just learned today about the existence of this:

https://www.webscript.io

A game in need of light a server-side stuff (i.e. to save highscores and things like that) could use it. You can't use it to create a game server, program runs are limited to 10 seconds.

I am not associated with this guys in any way, but I think it's a cool concept.
When I write def I mean function.

Attention: Scripts and storage for free accounts are deleted after 7 days.
Damn, it looked so good.

I'm more disappointed about the "unlimited" paid storage/traffic. Although it does look really neat.

Hi, I'm one of Webscript's founders.

No, free accounts don't have limits on traffic or storage. As someone else mentioned, "unlimited" is always a questionable term. We do reserve the right to shut people down if they're having a negative impact on the service itself (or other users), and this applies to both free and paid accounts.

If anyone's concerned about limits, please contact us (support@webscript.io). The idea of saying "unlimited" was to put people at ease that they don't really have to worry about their use. On the other hand, people who run at significant scale may want to know exactly what they can do. We're already considering whether we need to offer other paid account tiers to support larger customers. We just launched this week, so we're still learning about how people use the service. All feedback is appreciated.

I'm happy to answer any questions. I'll try to monitor this thread here, but the team can always be reached at support@webscript.io (or smarx@webscript.io to get directly to me).

When it comes to marketing, the word "unlimited" puts me at about as much ease as the word "free". It makes me feel like whoever is offering the service isn't being totally up-front with me since "unlimited" really just means "undefined arbitrary limit". It would totally make me worry about my use because I have no idea what "significant scale" means, especially if I happen to make a site that picks up traffic. I wouldn't know when/if you would pull the plug on my website that would (presumably) only run your servers.

I'm not trying to be rude, just expressing my honest opinion. Having said that, thanks for taking to time to register and comment for our little community. It looks like you have a good thing going with Webscript so I really hope it takes off for you.
