I think it would be safe to say that a programer who does not know how to use a terminal would be like a watch maker that does not know how to tell the time.

On the main page https://love2d.org/ it says in bold letters "Try it! It's super-easy.". I have been looking for good game making development tools for some time. When I see the claim that some game making software is super easy, I find quite often it is not. I have done some programing in basic and have some terminal experience. I also have some friends who can help me if I get really stuck. I am not a computer wiz of any kind. Quite often I have to explain to people what source code is. I suspect there are people who have downloaded love and don't even know what the word "compile" means.

I suspect that I will find love to be challenging and fun. The code seems to be close enough to Basic to not be too much of a learning curve.

For those hackers out there, please be aware that the average Joe just does not see a computer the way you do. As far as I can tell, PC and Mac users tend to not see the terminal for what it really is, a tool to gain access to the full potential of the computer. They tend to see it as one more thing that makes computers complicated and quite often find such things boring. However, Mac users do seem to be more interested in the more technical aspects of the computer than PC users.

I'd like to note I'm an opponent of the Mac vs PC fight, if only for the woefully incorrect conclusion that PC == windows computer. In any case, not even love asks from you you use the terminal, it's just that much easier if you do.

I use the terminal all the time. I am a Mac user. And I too think the Mac vs. PC wars should stay off the forums really. Löve is cross-platform, it should be discussed as being platform agnostic. Is that the correct term? I dunno. I launch my projects only from the terminal. Rarely do I ever double-click a .love. And I don't even put my games in folders with .love until I need to compress them and upload them to the forum. 99.9% of the time they sit in a non-extension folder and are launched right from the terminal.

Making accurate generalizations can be very difficult. It requires knowing a lot about a particular group of people. Look, from my experience Mac users seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers. I know some windows users who are also very computer savvy but they definitely seem to be the minority within windows users. I think Kikito was expecting me to understand terminal commands because I was a Mac user. And because I am a Mac user, I would be more likely to understand a terminal than the average windows user. I think there is a general feeling within the Mac community that once a person has upgraded to Mac he is now expected to understand the technical aspects of the OS seeing he is no longer one of those "noobish" Windows users. To some degree it is a valid expectation. Mac is a real BMW under the hood, and anyone who owns a BMW should have a real appreciation for the power and elegance it carries over most cars.

Look, I don't mean to start a flame war between Mac and Windows. But, I do have very strong feelings about Mac and Windows.

I am very much an open source advocate. I seriously distrust Microsoft and unless they embrace open source, I look forward to their demise. I use Mac because it is easier to use than Linux or BSD *nix, but I do not like the proprietary aspects of the OS. I really like Debian and Open BSD. I plan to move to a real open source OS when I know enough about computers or they get easy enough to use.

Well, assuming that you mean Magneto, then kindof - the actor is the same, Sir Ian McKellen (he's also the actor that plays Gandalf in Lord of the Rings). But on this particular picture he was playing another role - Number Two in the 2009 series The Prisoner. I picked a promotion image of the series that came with the Obey already built-in.

ANY forum or social media discussion is a mirror of reality and all his users that are persons. All have egos so weakness' and strengths. Some will be childish or naive, other mature and helpful, other will show a false superiority and act as jerks, some will kiss your feet for nothing just because you buddies, other will ignore your good things just because they don't like you. And some users (add trait/action here)... Even from OP's/moderators you never should expect perfection. They are or should be wise enough to help and correctly use his conscience but could happen that some use badly his power and influence. It just happens, it's life.
So be protective as anywhere is always a good thing at least till you became forum "buddy" or better friendly with "core" members. In LOVE forum we like to think we are a friendly community, we try. Well, I at least will try to help you as I can since I can't talk as voice of all. Also you shouldn't have problems with the 75% of the forum users (they are probably bots, it's a joke but you will understand this one day if read old threads).

Coffee, some of your sentences are confusing but I think I get the main Idea of your post.
Also, I have a hunch that the process of zipping files has been changed or upgraded for different OS X distributions. A one size fits all terminal solution in the help wiki for OS X may take some homework or may not exist.

Also, I have not been posting as often because I have been trying to do some reading on Lua/love.
I used Vim for the hello world code. If there is a better editor out there, please post the web site to it. Remember I'm on a Mac.
