I'd say give them karma if they helped you out a lot/deserve it. I dont think there is a clear cut rule for what deserves a +1

Karma was introduced to prevent people from having poor manners. It worked too.

Karma is a joke, people. Something used to control the masses, akin to religion. At least that's what my tin foil wearing father taught me.
