Fallin' Sky (2D Avoid Game)

Post by Larsii30 »

Hi everyone.

Fallin' Sky is my entry for the Märch 2012 Jam. The whole game was made in 2 Days (30.- 31.03)
In Fallin' Sky you have to avoid the falling monsters, the Cublubs, and some meteors. While your score gets higher, the monsters will fly down faster. At your spawnpoint is a little safety zone, which could be very helpful sometimes ;) Also sometimes there falling some powerups. They make you faster or give you a new life (max. 3!)

Features:
-> Awesome simple 2d 'retro' graphics!
-> A really basic menu!
-> Animated graphics!
-> 3(!) unique Power Ups!
-> A song by Eddy Lang!

Controls :
Arrow keys - Move left and right
Space - Jump
P - Pause
M - Music On/Off
ESC - Back to menu / Exit the game

Download:
Fallin' Sky v0.3.love
Löve Version 0.7.2 & 0.8:

Changelog:

- V 0.3
+ Some little graphical corrections and tweaks (Diamants shrink now etc.)
Seems to be the last version.
(3.29 MiB) Downloaded 267 times
(Full changelog inside the .love)
Note: incompatible to old graphics cards(Po2-syndrome)
Screenshots (new V0.3):

With that name Spielberg will sue you! :)
Game needs to relax a bit at start and be easier. The gameplay isn't bad at all. I like it but still needs some "tunning".
Try to mark "safe" in terrain itself (increasing a bit thickness of ground and paint the safe area perhaps?). Because line is not very visible.
Overall its a nice work.

yea, I've never seen this series so I had to google what you meant :D

To put the safe in the mid of the terrain could be nice to.
Think I try it out soon.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

You could do multiple safe areas depending dificulty. Easy = 1 safe at middle. Medium = 2 safe Areas each one in extremities. Hard = 1 safe point in one of the extremities. Very Hard = Mobile Safe Area.

Nice idea.
There are also some other things I whould like to add, but as I wrote above I have decided yesterday that I want make a game for the Löve Märch 2012,
so character selection / level selection, proper menus and difficulties etc. wasn't in my time window. :D I'm not really fast in programming btw. ^^

But the idea is nice thanks !

I enjoyed this little game. It felt very rounded and fun until I hit the game over screen. That felt like a brick wall, and was not encouraging.

Also, the rate of increase for the speed at which the enemies fall could be lowered a bit just to make the gameplay a little longer.

The power-ups were expecially nice! Good job Larsii30!

I See. I didn't pay much attention to the 'score screen' at all.
I think this will be better soon.
Thanks :)

Some PCs suffer of the PO2_Syndrome, they can't display images whose width or height are not a power of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 156, 512, 1024... Ok, I think you got it)
