It's a good stance, but I'd say it's going to be hard for the smaller companies in the world to justify not going to E3. It's lessened since Kintia (I think that's how you spelled it) Hall was removed, but smaller, more independent games often get their big moment in the light when they demo well at E3: Bastion, Flower, Limbo, Braid.

True, but this is where PAX comes in. Each year PAX gets bigger, and the viability of using PAX as your big moment is growing stronger. Fez jumps to mind as an example.

Am I correct in saying that E3 is no longer open to the general public? I don't follow very closely but I remember them making some drastic changes a few years back and they're supposedly not a really big deal anymore.

From what I remember, it might have never been "open" to the public, but getting press credentials was laughably easy. I think now it's just more strict on who it let in.
