Wii Homebrew
Wii Homebrew
I've been looking at a lot of wii homebrew recently and I'm wondering, is it possible to have love2d run on the wii homebrew?

Re: Wii Homebrew
its always a possibility...given time.
seen there comin out with that wii u thing...*shrugs*
anyway it is referenced: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Lua_for_Wii
..though it would be cool to do a dreamcasty love thing. *tugs beard*
~oh yeah there is linux for wii which would probs be quicker? (like run linux kernerl > run love) kinda stuffs.

Re: Wii Homebrew
It has absolutely nothing to with 'running linux on the Wii'. I'm assuming OP means running it through normal homebrew Wii methods. It would depend on the architecture of the CPU and what libraries are available that can be executed on that architecture.
EDIT: Doing a bit of quick research, the Wii's CPU is PPC architecture, which LOVE recently dropped support for. This isn't likely to happen.

>_> k. lol.
I just meant you could maybe run linux in order to run love. *shrugs*
sorta like running linux on ps3 to play emus and all that jazz.
scool though. just making conversation.
*which version did they drop it?

Re: Wii Homebrew
Even if you run a PPC version of linux (they exist) LOVE itself still has to be PPC compatible, which is no longer is. Running LOVE straight from the Wii system instead of through an extra layer (another OS) would be the most performance efficient way.
Unfortunately, this will likely never happen unless someone decides to start up a new PPC LOVE fork and do all the porting to Wii, which is a big job that takes a lot of know how.
It's just not happening.

Dang, would have been cool to see lua on wii.
Still, anything is possible.

Re: Wii Homebrew
This is a different statement, I think. Implementing Lua for the Wii, as someone pointed out, seems to already be done. But the underlying hard work of Love (I assume the stuff like rendering) is what isn't supported.Delibrete wrote:Dang, would have been cool to see lua on wii.

Re: Wii Homebrew
Actually, there's nothing that makes us ppc-incompatible, except for the fact that PPC OSX doesn't have the features we need (at least, that's as I understood it), and the lack of motivation (from anjo) to build and maintain the libraries we need for several architectures.Ensayia wrote:Even if you run a PPC version of linux (they exist) LOVE itself still has to be PPC compatible, which is no longer is.
