Before you read on, know that I am making this for a friend, I don't like the idea of building a game around another.


Inspired by Zombieville USA, and Minecraft, I have been working on this game for about a week, and so far it is very very crappy.
Although I don't like the idea of building a game around another, I have still had fun making this game. I plan to post a download and update it regularly.

So far the actual gameplay is very basic.
You start out in a place I call "camp".
it is daytime.
There is a sign that lists the controlls, and another that has purchasable weapons.

(I still need to get my artist to start making everything look like minecraft. Because right now the art doesn't look anything like it)
After you get a gun, you enter horde mode where there are randomly spawning houses and zombies.

You have to kill all of the zombies before ending the wave. After the wave is over you can finish looting houses and return to camp.


If you are interested with helping with this game, or you just have some tips for writing with love2d, then PM me and maybe we could chat on microsoft messenger or something, I'd really appreciate it!:D

I have made some progress. Just finished the shooting, and the zombies reaction. I have made semi-efficient house-spawning. And an amazing "winning" animation that I hope you all (5 viewers) love(2d:D)(You have to get 6 kills to see the winning animation). Still working on displaying
stats and shiz after you win. This 3-day weekend was very progressive. I will upload the new update, and please. If you guys have any feedback or want to help please speak up:D

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading this post, but I shall continue to update anyways!:D I have added a simple menu, and startup, and put in a lil music too! Just need to work on a loading screen for when the game starts up. We have taken a semi-step backwards in the art(Hopefully will change soon) but I did finish the first dubstep remix of a minecraft song, to listen to while you shoot zombies(see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME0m2y61KT4 ) had to keep it pretty basic so it wouldn't overpower the game.
And again, if anyone has any ideas for the game, or if you wanna help out, please speak up!:D

***BIG UPDATE(Sort of)***
Sorry to you two people who actually watch this post! Sorry for the lack of updates! I have been working on the Sock Munkee Development Official Website! It's done! But it's not live. The company thinks we shouldn't post the website til' this projects done!:p Idk.
Anyways THE ACTUAL Update.
I'm sorry but, we are unable to release any new ".love"'s because of how far we are in developmentXP This game is going to cost $1.00 on Steam, The Apple Laptop App Store, Android Market, and the IOS App Store. We should have a demo out soon just for the love2d forums!:D But for now, all I can really say about the development, is that the art is getting a huge update, we are almost done configuring the saving progress, we are adding 20 new weapons, and we are thinking about adding character options.

That's strange. His preview it's simple and non demanding. It worked well on love 0.72 with me.
baconhawka7x There is something strange. I payed for the shotgun but the game still didn't let me go (no gun! he printed). Still no fire right?
The "20" (life points?) trembles when scrolling is happen. The rest for now seems work. Keep improving it :)

Yes, the reason you cant leave is because sense your supposed to start out with $0, you have to buy the pistol(sence its free) and not the shotgun.
Also yes, the 20 is the HP. Do you know how I should stop it from trembling?

As in everything's white? I had a look at the image sources; they're not power-of-two, so that might be the problem (it all depends on your drivers).

@baconhawka7x: I use a lot of non-N^2 graphics myself. Aside from turning all the graphics into something that fits the ratio (which is a pain IMO), you can use image padding to trick the older drivers into displaying correctly. http://love2d.org/wiki/ImageData has workable code in the examples section.

Well but with your demo we start with 351$, I brought the shotgun for 350 and then I can't leave because I REALLY NEED to "buy" the free gun?
Sorry, but what the message says is "You Should Defidently Grab A gun Before Heading Out there!(The Pistol Is free!:)"
It's ok we can't leave without a gun just to deal with first-time player distractions, but also and not as you say we can't leave only with the shotgun (that I suppose it's a gun!).
So better correct that we always need to "buy" the free pistol not any another gun. I don't care if we start with 0$, 351$ or 1000$. There's already a problem there :D

EDITED you are relying your cash/score position with camera values that float. Since cash/life is to fixed in screen don't use camera.x and camera.y as reference. Also I think it's more logic to print it after the camera unset

all works fine. If you think you will have different resolutions get screen width and height as reference to print that data.

I spent 20 minutes to download a copy of your game, and I'm going to give a review:

Here is what I noticed:

1) Your "sock monkey" intro is annoying mostly due to the fact that you can't click to skip it. Also, The image is not spread all the way to the edge.
2) Why is there a space in front of " startup.lua"?
3) You change resolution after the startup.lua. You're better off using the conf.lua.
4) Why is there a 30mb raw wavefile of chiptune dubstep?

I would highly suggest converting it to ogg or mp3.
5) You ought to remove /font/font-minecraft-ttf.zip since you already have it uncompressed.
6) The white background is blinding. Consider toning it down a blue at least.
7) When you "win" a level, I'm pretty sure it is seizure inducing. Keep it below 3 times in one second.
8) Put a space between "win" and ":D"
9) How does one lose this game?
10) How does one actually buy the shotgun? I have enough money, but cannot buy it.
11) You seem to waste a lot of screen real estate, as the player can only occupy like 50px on the bottom of the screen.


Congrats on your first game, keep it up!

My biggest suggestion is to lower your scope, and clean it up as much as you can. Good work!

Haha yea. Its not too far. We are going to have a minecraft landscape for the background. And you cant die yet.
