Is this a good game idea?

Post by Tesselode »

I think it would be cool if I made a puzzle game with music integration and different skins sort of like Lumines. People would be able to contribute skins if they wanted. I might come up with my own gameplay idea, or I could just clone something like Puzzle League.

So basically the point of the game would be to be a showcase of skins people from various forums have created. Does that sound like a worthwhile idea?

So... How would it be a game, as opposed to a web site showing off a bunch of skins and playing music?

I've seen some "Lumines" and "Puzzle League" gameplay videos and they look great, it could be interesting to make a similar game or a clone. But I don't really get what you are asking for. You want to know if we would do skins if you made it?

Let me rephrase. My idea is to either make an original puzzle game or a clone of another puzzle game (like Puzzle League) but with skins and interactive music like Lumines. The skins would (hopefully) be created by a bunch of different people from forums.

My question is, would this be worth making, or should I focus on something more original?

Can't really vote, theres just not enough detail of game play. It seems like you're questioning which way to go, not if its a good idea as a whole.

Maybe develop the idea a bit first then represent it?

Water Warfare.
It's on WiiWare, and it's pretty solid for a WiiWare game.
It's not paintball, but it's pretty much what you said.

first of all I want to recommend you to write a game design document. Here's an article that I goodled for you and covers some of the important aspects of it at the first glance:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3 ... ument_.php

If you made this then you can see the big picture alot better. What your proposing is only a feature (the reason why I didn't vote yet). Talking about your feature: It could be a fun thing for the players to create their own skins if it is quick and easy. Most of the players aren't artists so you'd have to provide something like a skin-editor with a number of cool effects/shapes so they can patch things quickly together and feel awesome! Then you do not have to "hope" for your players to do it on some forum (how many players do visit a game related forum anyway?) but you have an integrated and fun editor/customization feature.

hope I could help you a bit with that answer :D
Sry about my english.
