I've been vacant from the IRC and Forums for a little while due to continuing computer issues.
As some of the IRC regulars know, I suffered data corruption on my 1TB HDD but managed to recover everything that was truly important. I decided to purchase a new motherboard to finally resolve a longstanding HDD controller issue causing the data corruption. Along with the motherboard I got the excellent NZXT Phantom case. After installing the parts into the new case and doing a reformat I was suffering from random lockups and bluescreens that were memory related. Running memtest86+ overnight showed my RAM was clean, so the motherboard was either defective or not very compatible with my RAM. I decided to RMA the board back to Newegg and get a replacement.
The replacement came today and after everything was installed there were no longer any lockup issues. I decided to go buy a can of compressed air to dust out my graphics cards and CPU heatsink that were badly in need of it. Upon removing the heatsink the processor was stuck to it by the thermal putty. Attempting to remove the processor, I dropped it and bent quite a few pins! Even though I straightened them out the system will no longer POST with that processor and I have since ordered a newer quad core AM3 CPU. Hopefully I can install this and get back to gaming and programming soon.
I just got Skyrim too and have barely played it...
EDIT: LOL what an appropriate 200th post...
Rotten Luck
Re: Rotten Luck
That is... quite impressive. The only thing that has ever really happened to me was when I didn't clip the CPU fan in properly, and one day when I was using my computer the fan fell out and crushed my 56k modem. The computer shutdown immediately but thankfully nothing was damaged (except the modem).
