Facilitated Escape (Originally Created for LD21)
Re: Facilitated Escape (Originally Created for LD21)
Runs just fine. I would recommend using a darker background to make it easier for the eyes to see the difference between stuff that kill you and the background.
My game called Hat Cat and the Obvious Crimes Against the Fundamental Laws of Physics is out now!

I agree with all this. Runs fine, needs more contrast between obstacles and background.T-Bone wrote:Runs just fine. I would recommend using a darker background to make it easier for the eyes to see the difference between stuff that kill you and the background.
When I write def I mean function.

Thanks for the feedback guys. You're right, I've darkened the background tiles, mainly the middle ones. I've also experimented with using the additive blend mode on the fire effects (the jet, and ship explosion). How does it look now?
EDIT: Just updated again, it's all minor stuff though.

Cool game. Love the retro feel to it. Could use a little more features, but I can see that you're working on it. Good job.

The new version works great and is much more pleasant! Good job!
Just wondering, how did you make the music?

Thanks! Yeah I guess so; maybe I'll add some more things to it down the track.Frozen City wrote:Cool game. Love the retro feel to it. Could use a little more features, but I can see that you're working on it. Good job.
Good to hear! You can find all the software I used in the Software section on the game's page. Unfortunately I don't have the software to make really awesome chiptune music with different sounds and the like; someday I'll have to experiment with all that.T-Bone wrote:The new version works great and is much more pleasant! I get a very undescriptive error after a couple of seconds.BlackBulletIV wrote:Alright, I've been working on this for a little while. I've attempted to address the video shutter issues, with some success. I do know however that it's definitely not my game's code causing all of the shuttering, at least on my machine. Anyway, details are in the main post:

You download the .love file from my Dropbox. Thanks guys!
- Did you have video shutter issues?
- Was it too hard?
- Was it fun, frustrating, etc.?
- Any suggestions for improvement?

I'll some more information to be able to look into it. What does it say? Blue screen or segmentation fault? What was going on in the two seconds before?
Also, I've updated the game again; just a few changes to make it play and look better, plus I removed the formatting from the distance on the score screen (didn't mean to leave it in there).

I think it's great. I see no problems with the colors of the background objects. My high score is 1358m.
I just think the ship moves left and right too fast too soon. It's like VVVVVV where he moves quickly at the slightest tap.

Thanks for the feedback!
I'm still wondering whether it's too hard; not many people are able to over 1000m in a few tries (my highscore is above 12700m, but I've definitely played it over a 1000 times).

That's because I've already adjusted them.Jasoco wrote:I see no problems with the colors of the background objects.
I can understand that; it's just that if it were much slower you wouldn't be able to pull off large curves, which look really cool. I'll experiment a bit with slower speeds, but I'm not sure if I can take it down much more.Jasoco wrote:I just think the ship moves left and right too fast too soon.
