my idea

Post by Hiigara »

I have an idea for a game. imagine harvest moon, animal crossing, terraria combo. You start with a small group of people in the woods, as time progresses, they find and learn new things. they build houses, and increase in population. you cant control them, and only direct. the theory is at the end, it would slowly flow from instinct to politics, between other civs, and be a lot of fun.

Im looking for help on this project by the way, and will pay well.

Why hello there! Would you by any chance be interested in hiring a motivated, creative and multifaceted individual? If so, you, sir, are in luck! For the low-low price of $80/h, you shall have not only my sword, but also my bow and my axe!

Is that a low price!? That's awesome.

Anyway, the game idea sounds pretty good; not exactly sure if I can offer any help at this stage though.

80 an hour is a lot for an indie 2d game. especially when ive never seen what you can do, and don't trust you. start small and it will build up as i learn to trust you. anyone else?

I would start with something a little less ambitious and learn to program as you go. I have been using both Lua and LOVE for over a year now and I am just getting confident enough to make something on my own. Many people underestimate just how hard it is to make a game. Gathering people together who can cooperate to achieve a common goal is hard and it's not even the most difficult part. A game needs a very solid plan that covers every aspect of what you intent to do before you write the first line of code, although there are rare exceptions of course.

My personal advice? Learn a little Lua and LOVE and make a few small programs or games, listen to advice and try to apply it in intelligent and productive ways. After that you will begin to gain the trust and respect of other forum members and you can push on to create good things and probably even recruit a little help along the way.

You are not the first person to come to the forums and say "I have a great idea let's make a game" and you will not be the last. It never works out that way. I hope you become a productive member of the community.

Keep your "sword" in your pants, please. ;)

Based on reputation, he'd be easier to trust than you. Gotta factor that in.

... and that's why nevon has to trust you, instead of the other way around.

This is a bit of an amusing topic to me. You should never say to an indie developer "I have an idea for a game!" I probably speak for a lot of devs when I answer: "That's nice, I have about 1,000,000 ideas". :) The problem is in the implementing your idea. 99% of all ideas don't even become prototypes, and out of those prototypes 99% never become completed games and out of those completed games 99% will never be commercially successful. So yeah, as Ensayia said it's probably better to start out with something less ambitious.

Yep that's me, lol.

For me that would 99.9% or larger.
