Beginner help

Post by Neglli »

Hello, I started working with löve today, but the problem is it doesn't work.
I create a directory with two text files and changed the type of the files to lua and conf. The names of the files are main and game.
I filled in the example code, saved and draged the folder which contains the two files onto the love.exe.
But it doesn't happen anything.
So what I did wrong?
need help, plx :)

You need to drag it onto love.exe, not lua.exe.

It sounds like you're using windows, but please advise if that's not the case.

If WIndows Explorer is hiding extensions of known file types and you rename a text file to main.lua or game.conf, it will secretly keep the filename as main.lua.txt or game.conf.txt.
This option can be disabled from the Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab. Uncheck the box labeled Hide extensions for known file types.

Also, you can try zipping your files and renaming the .zip to .love and double click on that, or from a command line try "love directoryname".

I know the trick with the extensions so this is not the problem ;-)
I tried out the zipping and the thing with the command but it doesn't work.
I searched for a reason in the LOVE folder and found a text file with the following content:
Game (D:\Info\löve.love) does not exist.

The name of this file is stderr.txt

Oh okay.
I changed the name of thr folder from löve to unbekannt and now it's working.
Very mysterious I think the illuminati are involved ;-)
Thanks for help.

I'm glad you were able to get it figured out.

In this case it looks like it was actually a character encoding issue.
