LOVE Backdoor?

Post by Dragon »

A backdoor.bitrose in love.exe came up on a Malwarebytes scan after I installed love today. Nothing came up on Norton and VirusTotal.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Sorry.

When I scanned my computer, there was backdoor malware in love.exe. Is this a false positive?

It might be useful if you told us what antivirus software you were using, but it most likely is a false positive, yeah. LÖVE is open source, you can check the code for back doors if you want.

I'm using malwarebytes. If anyone else (on Windows) could scan LOVE with it that would be great.

I did. Using MS Essentials.
This release is clean : Löve 0.7.2 Zipped
Should be a false positive.
What's the backdoor's name ?

Every version of Love above 0.5.0 (that is, when I first heard about Love) has tested clean with MSE and SuperAntiSpyware.

It would seem that your scanner either found a heuristic false-positive, or, far less likely, maybe you already have a virus which infected Love when you downloaded it.
Earliest Love2D supporter who can't Love anymore. Let me disable pixel shaders if I don't use them, dammit!

I'm running Windows XP and I've done a full scan on love 0.7.2 with the free version of Malwarebytes and it didn't detect anything.

I had a virus called flapjack waffles (or something similar) many years ago that injected itself into all my exe files. It also injected a link to its ad-site in all html files I had.

Scanned 0.7.2 Using virustotal - it's completely clean, not even a false positive.

Code: Select all

File name: love-0.7.2-win-x86.exe
Submission date: 2011-06-29 21:55:49 (UTC)
Current status: finished
Result: 0/ 42 (0.0%)
