Invader - Reinvention of Vertical Shoot-em-up Game

Post by hengying »

Almost everyone has played some kind of shoot-em-up game, but did you ever think about how the player’s plane could upgrade it’s weapon? This Invader game could tell you the secret.
Weapon towers floating in the Universe, if a power source attached it, it would become to an active weapon, shooting at opponents. If it lost the power source, it will be floating again.

LÖVE 0.7.1 is needed to play this game.

Cool idea. I see this game more as an arena shooter (where enemies and guns come in from all sides of the screen) rather than a scrolling shmup. There's quite a bit of potential here especially if the gameplay was a bit faster.

Fun an addictive :) I think I'd like to be able to shoot myself though. Those walls killing the player are annoying too. I'd rather to be completely stripped down of weapons but allow me to continue (perhaps with a chance of getting a single humble weapon after being strip down). Not sure if you can get killed by the enemies bullets, looks like they can only hurt your weapons.

Player is just the "power source", player have to protect his "power source".
The power source could not be healed, so try to surround the power source with "weapon towers" (what I called the floating weapons).

Try to avoid the "power source" hitting on the "wall bricks". The bricks will limit the weapons
of the player, otherwise it would be very easy to win.

It's not very difficult, just be patient ...
Hope you enjoy it!

Very nice game. The aiming turrents feel kind of useless when you are not left or right of the enemy though. Maybe making their aiming a bit inaccurate could fix the problem.
