Git gets all the love nowadays for some reason. If you want something that puts the emphasis on being clean and easy to use, give Bazaar a shot. Git is certainly fast and powerful, but if you need to do something the slightest bit non-trivial with Git, you end up spending half an hour digging through overly complicated documentation. This is not a problem with Bazaar as the docs and program itself are incredibly simple and it comes standard with a fully functional GUI explorer that actually works.

I don't know how good Launchpad is, but it's what they use to host the Ubuntu source code so it should be more than enough for your purposes.

Not exactly. It's growing fast (I'm sure part of it is to do with GitHub, they're awesome), but SVN still has the lead (unfortunately).

Check out Pro Git. It's got pretty everything you need to know about Git (even how it works internally), and, from what I've read, it's very easy to understand.

Indeed, but does it get any love at all?

Bazaar looks pretty cool, I'll try it. It's very important for me - easy to use, nobody knows VCS in my team and small part of team knows English (including me :D ).

Too many errors in bazaar: error while connecting to launchpad, error while connecting to sftp... Only local repository works.

Lol :). Just know that if you go with Bazaar you won't have GitHub or BitBucket.
