Looking for some advice for LÖVE 3D

Post by corcho »

Hello, this is my first participation in this forum.

I've been using LÖVE for personal projects since a few years ago (since 2020), and I have always used the 2D side of LÖVE. Today made the decision of start learning 3D modeling to be able to start make 3D games with LÖVE, but I hit whit a wall due there is not too much information about how to use some 3D engines that are already out there. the ones that catch my attention are 3DreamEngine, g3d and Menori, but, as I said before, there is not too much info or tutorials. I can be emboldened enough to dive into the documentation of each of them for myself, but that would be mean spent time in something that maybe isn't the best option.

I opened this thread to ask kindly to people who has experience with LÖVE 3D what are theirs advices, which engine is better for X scenario, and why Y engines is bad for Z scenario, and so on.

Thanks for readme. Cheers from México :awesome:

Hi. If I were in your position I'd prioritize working on your art skills, because the content is the most prominent thing in your game. That is, learning how to make great assets like models, textures and animation, even if you're after low-fidelity aesthetics like retro 3D (lowpoly, pixel art textures etc).

Also, having some assets around will let you more effectively "audition" different 3D renderers to find the one that clicks with you the best.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of 3D game do you have in mind?

Nice. Rather than the 3D aspects, I think the most challenging part will be coming up with the system to coreograph the enemy movements, making it like a theater performance. There was some discussion in here but it's in the context of shoot 'em ups: viewtopic.php?p=254349#p254349
Best of luck!
