We have 3 (wonderful) entries right now, but I'm sure some of you are still thinking about how to cram more beauty on those 4 KB.
I've decided to include one inspirational video, thus making use of that youtube tag; by the way, in order to embed a youtube video, you just remove the right ("http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=") part from the url and put the rest between the two "youtube" tags that appear when you press the +youtube+ button in the toolbar of the forums.
These explosions don't only look nice, but also come accompanied by an explanation from their author. This might give you some ideas!

Wow, those are some jolly nice explosions. Based off his explanation, I might have another crack at it. After all, I've still got space to use from my last entry.

Re: 4KB Explosions Contest
nice!
By the way, this thread isn't for contest entries only. If anyone knows about other videogames / films with good explosions, feel free to post some footage.

Re: 4KB Explosions Contest
Cortex Command has some pretty interesting pixel art explosions
here
thats a pretty crappy example that i made ages ago
was supposed to be a thermite explosion, hence the heavy smoke and large amount of heavy molten stuff
good luck to all in this competition, the current entries are awesome

Re: 4KB Explosions Contest
The Cortex Command explosion is very complex! You say did it yourself?
The Geometry Wars explosions just give an idea of what can be achieved with particle systems, fading effects and light. I wonder if that can be replicated in LÖVE (and 4KB or less)
