Unnamed top-down space game
So, here's my game. It's a little like Escape Velocity: Nova, but without the awesome.
No menus yet, and no real GUI either. For now you can just move around and shoot the other ships (which don't react at all).
Controls:
up to move forward
left / right to turn
down to brake
spacebar to fire
1 and 2 changes weapons (1 is a laser bolt thing, 2 is missiles)
tab selects the nearest ship (missiles will lock onto the selected ship)
Your ship has energy which constantly recharges. Firing weapons drains it slightly. You also have shields which constantly recharge until they run out, and then it takes 5 seconds of no damage for them to recharge again.
The semi-latest version will always be at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4214717/spacegame.love

I had a quick play of it. Nice job! I like you did the parallax star background.

I'm not sure why, but it only runs at like, 9 FPS for me. Weird.
Don't feel bad about your code - I assure you, mine is faaaar worse.

Re: Unnamed top-down space game
Huh, weird. What are your computer specs? I have a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo using an nvidia geforce 9400m, and I got 200-210 fps (with vsync off) while sitting still doing nothing.
I changed the radar to only update at a maximum of 20fps and that brought my framerate up to 230-240, but I guess that won't really help you. :/

Never mind. LOVE was spazzing out for some strange reason. Even my game ran super slow. But it's suddenly back to normal now. Mysterious...

This is coming along pretty nicely. Missiles! Shields! Other stuff!
